I had the chance to sit down with my friend San Veliz and discuss their experience with music. They shared their thoughts and feelings about failure and self-doubt when it comes to playing an instrument. However, San believes that we should embrace these fears and failures in music.
After a piano recital at the age of six, San recalled how that experience shaped their future. They were discouraged from playing again for nearly 20 years. San explained that failure in music taught them that the only way to become good and professional is to learn how to practice better so they can fail and learn from their mistakes to keep going.
San continues to encourage people to pick up an instrument. They acknowledge that some instruments are easier to play than others, but they emphasize that people do get discouraged. However, the satisfaction of learning a difficult song outweighs all the discouragement that comes with it.
Since this was one of my first interviews done by myself, I was also quite intimidated. However, the topic of music and the opportunity to sit down with a friend helped us forget about the professional lights and camera and have a genuine one-on-one conversation.
